World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost the rarity of an item or mark Level, and also boost other stats.
Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. This value is the total of all the leveled up perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is because of how many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.
The level of an item is a popular measure of power, and is visible on all item tooltips. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players can wear since PvP is not available at lower levels. Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can evaluate the levels of the item. It's an indicator of the item's damage and quality. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a vendor.
On PC, you are able to see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are a variety of theories on the method by which the level of an item is calculated. item upgrading is that the level is a number derived from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that different perks have different worth, and also that gems in sockets increase the item's overall value. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
This is not the only factor that affects the level of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped may alter its stats. For instance, it could add a level to the item's haste or crit score. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of them in many ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods on a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by the player's level.
Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers will be upgraded several times at higher prices.
Another method to alter the stats on an item is by affixing it. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all sizes and shapes. Affixes are used to give items extra damage, special capabilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs), or to differentiate them by naming them.
All affixes can be being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other methods of rerolling.
Players can choose to upgrade an item to specific stats, or reroll the affixes. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However each item will contain at least one stat within the same range, unless it's an item that is unique, or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.
This is another aspect that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or deciding which stats to enhance. But, like base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis, and the interface for comparing items will not show all the stats that could be gained or lost at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the likelihood of locating items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is particularly advantageous in early game runs because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons come with an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to give +40 Luck or to boost the luck of the item up to 140.
Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage of any ability that deals damage by 5percent. These items can be purchased in the shop, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item if it fails.
The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%.

The performance of an can be affected by the luck of that item. Each item has an average success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases that chance by 5%.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
